The Good News of Jesus Christ - Part 8

Who Are You Serving?

Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.

In the Bible passage, Jesus clearly tells us that we can only have 1 God in our lives.  God doesn’t want a rival with our time, our emotions, our desires, our energy, and our focus.
We cannot serve God and table tennis
We cannot serve God and our job
We cannot serve God and our stuff

Once we put our priorities in line (with serving God at the top of the list) all other things will take their rightful places.

The Bible also says…
Exodus 20:3-4
You shall have no other gods before me.  You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  You shall not bow down to them or serve them

When we read this passage, we often think, “Well, I’m ok!  I don’t have any idols in my house that I worship.”
Actually, a god in your life can be anything that takes the top priority.  Is your hobby consuming all of your energy and devotion?  Your sport? Your bank account?

God created you and made you.  He loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son (Jesus) to die on the cross.  If you repent of your sins (confess and forsake your sins) and put your trust in Jesus to save you, you can have eternal life in heaven.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son.  That whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This is the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Once you have become a follower of Christ, your outlook on life and your priorities will change.  You will then be doing everything for the glory of God – job, hobbies, housework, yard work, table tennis, and everything else in life.
