Barbara Wurster Scholarship Program
Coming September 2021!!!

The Samson Dubina Educational Table Tennis Academy, Inc 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization is very blessed on many levels.  One of the best things we will be implementing in September 2021 is the Barbara Wurster Scholarship Program.  In the coming months, more details will be posted on www.SamsonDubina.com.  For now, we can say, there are many good things ahead!!!

Mrs. Wurster was integral in the development of the Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy, and she wanted to see the sport grow and continue to foster players both young and old. As a resident of Elyria's Wesleyan Village, both she and her late husband Keith Wurster encouraged a love of the game to many residents, including their dear friend and Senior Olympian Walt Westermann. The ping pong table at the village became a community of its own through the shared spirit of fun and competition, and Keith and Barbara shared many games with Walt and other friends at the village. Her enthusiasm for table tennis also encouraged her daughter to pick up the game later in life, and she says of her late mother's approval of her table tennis obsession: "[Mom] was thrilled that I had found something where I met wonderful people, got great exercise and had so much fun." Truly, Mrs. Wurster's impact on the game of table tennis in Northeast Ohio will live on in those who take up the game and do the same.

Barbara Wurster donated anonymously to the Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy to support the family-friendly sport through open play, coaching, leagues, classes, camps, and tournaments like the one we now use to honor her generosity and kindness of spirit. Of this donation, Mrs. Wurster said privately that her late husband "would have gotten a kick out of it." Samson was able to see Mrs. Wurster shortly after her donation to the academy, and he enjoyed seeing her play, and play well!

We hope you take a moment while playing at the academy, not only to play well, but to think about what it means to play "well," with kindness, generosity, graciousness, and a newfound appreciation for the fact that we can all play together. We thank all of our competitors for keeping not only Mrs. Wurster in mind, but also her love for the game and those who will continue playing in the future.
