On September 26-27, the 8th Newgy Akron Open Table Tennis Tournament will be at a new location this year. Walsh University's main gymnasium will host the 150-player 30-table event featuring the nations top athletes from 8 different states aiming to take home the title and a portion of the $3000 cash prizes. The players to watch include Xue Feng Jia from China, Cheng Li from Mississippi currently the #1 college player in the US, Samson Dubina former US Men's National Team Member, Derek Nie the 13-year-old superstar from Maryland, and the brother team of Gabriel and Michiah Skolnick from St. Louis.
Spectators are welcome to come watch for free throughout the weekend. The events will kick off on Friday night at 5pm with the following events - handicap, junior recreational, family doubles, and open doubles. The main event will be on Saturday from 9am-4pm. The open finals will be staged on the main court at 3pm. The tournament is open to all and the registration form can be found at www.ohiopingpong.com.
