Isaiah 53:5-6
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healted. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
Hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth, the prophet Isaiah prophesied (as inspired by God) that the Messiah would come to pay for our sin, our transgressions, our iniquities. That is exactly what Jesus did by dying on the cross. We have sinned and deserve eternal hell. Innocent as He was, Christ humbled himself and came to earth to pay the price that we deserved to pay. In gratitude to Him, we need to humble ourselves, see our sin as God sees it, repent, and turn to him for salvation.
