1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods.
For Christians, we have been bought with a price – the precious price of the blood of Jesus and have new hearts that love God and desire to please God.
1 Peter 1:18-21 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Pastor John MacArthur says, “Redeemed – that is to buy back someone from bondage by the payment of a price; to set free by paying a ransom. Redemption – was a technical term for money paid to buy back a prisoner of war. Here it is used of the price paid to buy the freedom of one in the bondage of sin and under the curse of the law (eternal death Galatians 3:13). The price paid to the holy God was the shed blood of His own Son.”
