2 Corinthians 12:7-10
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
This is actually one of my favorite passages in Scripture. I truly believe that Paul was asking rightly for this to be removed. I think that Paul really was asking God – believingly, humbly, submissively, sincerely, and reverently I really don’t think that Paul was asking this request with selfish motives. And God said…. Look at verse 9… “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”It truly was God’s will for Paul to have this Thorn in the Flesh. So when we have problems and trials and tribulations and sickness, is it right for us to ask and seek and knock? Absolutely. And God might just reply, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” And WHY was it that God allowed this thorn-in-the-flesh??? Look back at vs 7. …lest I should be exalted beyond measure!!! We are move dependant on God when we are humbled and broken and see that we are in desperate need of God.
