In tournaments, many players want to play in higher-rated events.  Many 1200 players like to play in the u1800 and u2000 events.  Many 1800 players like to play in the u2300 and u2500 events.  Playing in these high-rated events can be beneficial or it can be harmful.  Here are some benefits and risks…

Congrats!

The Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy would like to congratulate Roger liu for being the October student of the month.  Roger had an outstanding performance at the Millcreek Open dominating the u2400 event.  There are several reasons 
 
#1 Focus
Roger showed very good focus throughout his matches and was fighting hard for every point.  
 
#2 Helpfulness
Roger was a team player and was willing to help others throughout the weekend.  At various times throughout the tournament, Roger was seen coaching and cheering for other SDTTA members.

Paddle Palace Ohio League

The Paddle Palace Ohio League here in Akron is now growing bigger and bigger each week. We have recently had players from Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Akron, and Canton compete. Regardless if you live in Ohio or not, we would love to have you come.

USATT Has a New Referee

USATT has a new referee...
Congrats to Blake Cottrell for being the first person in the last decade to get a perfect score on the USATT Written Referee Test and Draw!  The Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy is proud to have such a competant person running all of our USATT Tournaments and other area events!  Blake really does so much to help us promote the sport here in Ohio - and we thank him for his service!

Coaching Kids!

Serious? Fun? Both?

When coaching 5-6 year old kids, about 50% of your time should be on fun drills and 50% of your time should be on structured training.

When coaching more serious players, about 5% of your time should be on fun drill and 95% of your time should be on structured training.
Unless they are developing bad habits, fun drills can also be a means of improvement by adding more dexterity and more concentration!
