New Year’s Resolution #1
Become a better listener.
Spend less time talking and more time listening.
James 1:19-21
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;  for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.  Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

New Year’s Resolution #3
Reaching Out to Others
At least twice this year, I want to take a homeless guy out for lunch and be intentional about sharing the Gospel with him.  I also want to follow-up with helping his physical needs as well.
Matthew 25:34-40
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

New Year’s Resolution #4
Morning Goal
Spend at least 30 min each morning in Bible reading and prayer.  Specifically praying for my family, students, academy, our country, and boldness to unashamedly preach the Gospel.

New Year’s Resolution #5
Reading Goal
Read at least 4 books during the year (that a lot for me)
Proverbs 11:14
Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

New Year’s Resolution #6
Nutrition
On days that I’m coaching or working out, drink 16-20 bottles of water per day.  On days off, drink 8-12 bottles per day.  Double my 2020 vegetable intake.  Instead of 1 serving of fresh vegetables per meal, eat 2 servings.  Also, limit fastfood to no more than 1x per month, except when traveling.

New Year’s Resolution #7
Fitness Goals
-Run a 5:15 mile
-22 pullups
-40 dips
-55 pushups
-15 min rotating plank
-10 min wall sit
-10 one-leg squats each leg in 20 sec or less
-Establish a nightly stretching routine for 10 min each night
1 Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

New Year’s Resolution #8
Personal Table Tennis Developments
Even though I’m focusing on coaching right now and not playing tournaments, I find it very fascinating to continue developing my game someone as an experiment.  If I have played for 25 years with less-than-ideal strokes and tactics, can I make changes now?  Absolutely!  In 2020, I had some of my best wins at the academy beating a number of 2550-2650 level players.  Here are the things that I’m going to develop in 2021:
-More angled rallies instead of targeting middle quite so much
-Focusing more on speed instead of just spin and consistency and location
-Playing earlier timing on the 3rd ball and fh 5th ball
-More relaxed and adjustable technique
-Shorter backswing on FH and more weight transfer on follow through
-Covering 55% with bh in rallies and 45% with fh
-Serving more often from middle and fh with hook or rev pendulum
-Practice high toss serve at least 1 session per week and implement it at league each week
-More confidence in forehand counterloop and blocking less often
-More heavy backspin and heavy topspin rev pendulum (instead of just sidespin and no-spin)
-More weight transfer on serves
-More aggressive serve returns
-Directly after multiball or Power Pong robot drills, immediately doing match application and checking my progress

New Year’s Resolution #9
Support Others
I would like to do a much better job at encouraging others.  If TT players are going to be motivated to work hard and stay on course, then I need to do better at keeping them motivated and offering more recognition, regardless of how small the achievement.

New Year’s Resolution #10
Date Time
Go on at least 1 date with each family member each month (Heather gets 2 dates).  These can be anything from simple 30 min dates to extravagant weekend getaways.
Ephesians 5:25-30
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.  Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.  For we are members of His body.
