The Thief on the Cross

Read a short Bible passage from Luke 23

Today, I was pondering the Bible passage about Jesus on the cross as recorded for us in Luke 23.

Luke 23:39-43     Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”  But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”  And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Let’s briefly examine both of these thieves who were hanging on the cross.  The first thief was unrepentant and was mocking Christ.  The second thief understood that he was a guilty sinner.  The second thief understood that Jesus was innocent and had done nothing wrong.  The second thief looked away from himself and looked to Jesus to be saved.
Which person are you?  The Bible makes it very clear that all of us are sinners.  Are you denying your sin?  Are you trying not to think about it?  Are you thinking that you can do enough good to cover your bad?  Today, turn to Jesus repenting of your sins.  Look away from yourself and look to Jesus as your only means to be saved.
