I have been reading through the book of John in the Bible. Over and over throughout the book, Jesus explains that He is Divine and that man is only saved by believing in Him. Just over 2000 years ago, Jesus came, lived a perfect life, died the death of a criminal, and rose again to show that He has power over death. So, why did He come?
The Bible clearly states God's law, which is summarized for us in the 10 commandments (I'm sure that you have heard of them). Everyone, from all generations, has broken God's law and is guilty before God. We were hell-deserving and couldn't pay our own sin-debt. So, God sent his Son (Jesus) to earth, to pay for our sins on the cross. So how does He want us to respond? He wants us to repent and turn from our wickedness and trust in Jesus as being God's Son who loved us and came to die for us. We need to trust that His death was sufficient to pay for our sins.
John 11:25-27
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."
John 14:6
Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man comes to the Father but by Me."
John 3:36
Jesus said, "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
