Dear Table Tennis Community,
Thanks so much for supporting my table tennis playing career through my gofundme account. Training for the Olympic trials was a great experience and I learned much along the way. Now that the Olympic trials is over, I'm going to continue full-time in table tennis coaching, promoting the sport, as well as competing. Today, I just won the Erie PA Open coming back from down 0-2 in games and down match point in the 4th. I'm excited to continue playing tournaments this year in preparation for the US Nationals in July.
At the Arnold Challenge last month, I got demolished 11-3 the first game by Yichi Zhang. I had previously beaten him 4-2 in our last encounter, but this was a totally different opponent that I was facing. If I pushed, he hit a winner. If I blocked, he went right through me. If I looped, he counterlooped with extreme power. It seemed that he countered everything I did with extreme ease. I realized that I could not play my normal game and win; I had to go for more if I were to put enough pressure on him.
For the weekend clinics, we usually have a theme for the weekend such as strokes, footwork, tactics, serving, etc… and each player will do similar drills throughout the weekend that are level appropriate all geared toward the topic for the weekend.
On Tuesday evening, the kids group class goes from 6-7:30pm and the teen/adult group class goes from 7:30-9pm. For the kids, I’ll be personalizing training programs for them in the future. But for now, most of the kids are doing similar drills.
In the US, most serious players take private lessons from a pro. Throughout the world, private lessons are a rarity and many players participate in group sessions. Regardless if you are 500 or 2500 level, I recommend that you take a mixture of both. Private lessons for specific issues and group lessons for several reasons that I’ll be outlining in this article. Here are the five reasons that I recommend that you take group lessons.
