It is very difficult for the players to imagine a motor action that is only described with words. Nothing can replace the image. It is therefore strongly recommended to put the proposed exercises into an image either by letting the players or the coach demonstrate it or by showing a video of a high level player.
Questioning is an important part of the pedagogy employed because it allows to rephrase what has been said and to get a better idea of the player’s understanding of the instructions they are meant to follow.
Questions that you should be asking yourself everyday!
During a private lesson at the Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy, I usually ask my student about 20-30 questions.
So why do I ask them questions?
Aren’t I getting paid to answer questions?
Let me explain... If a student keeps looping my push into the net, I will ask him…
A. Why is your backhand loop continually going into the net?
B. Were you watching my racket?
C. Did you read the amount of spin that I put on the ball?
Most club players are unable to excel in table tennis because of their poor footwork. Many players blame their beer belly or their age or their footwear or their training partners.
